Woodlands Family Practice has been providing compassionate and competent care in The Woodlands community for over 30 years.
Dr. Niemeyer
Dr. Niemeyer grew up in the small town of Lake Jackson, TX, where his family and church helped him cultivate a passion for serving others. After high school, he attended Texas A&M University in College Station and majored in Biology. Upon graduation, he moved to Houston, TX, where he studied Medicine at Baylor College of Medicine in pursuit of his dream to be a primary care physician. He also studied Public Health at the University of Texas Houston School of Public Health, where he received a Master in Public Health (MPH) degree in Community Health Practice. He completed his residency training in combined Internal Medicine and Pediatrics at Baylor College of Medicine in 2015, and he is board certified in both specialties.
Dr. Niemeyer and his wife, Lauren, followed their love of service to Washington, DC, after residency, where he started his career in primary care and served for the next 4 years before returning to Texas in 2019. Since their return, he has continued his work in primary care in Houston, TX, before joining Woodlands Family Practice. He and his wife are blessed with 2 beautiful children: David, age 4, and Eva, age 1. Outside of Medicine, Dr. Niemeyer enjoys spending time with family, traveling, reading, and running.
Dr. Niemeyer considers caring for families a special privilege and loves promoting health and wellness in patients of all ages.
Dr. Yau
Dr. Yau was born and raised in Houston, Texas. He attended St. John's School for high school; he graduated from Rice University. Afterward, he went to Medical School at University of Texas Medical School at Houston. He then completed residency training at Indiana University in combined Adult Internal Medicine and Pediatrics.
Dr. Yau is board certified by both American Board of Pediatrics and American Board of Internal Medicine. He cares for patients of all ages, from newborns to young children and adults.
Dr. Yau is a devoted follower of Jesus Christ. He is married to his beautiful wife, Hannah. They have a lovely daughter, Rachel. Together, they are active members of WoodsEdge Community Church.
Dr. Yau and his family are proud to make The Woodlands their home. He has been in medical practice at Woodlands Family Practice since 2005.
Dr. Powellson
Born in Michigan, Dr. Matthew Powellson grew up in northern Indiana. He graduated from Indiana University with a Bachelors in Psychology. At Indiana University School of Medicine in Indianapolis, he completed medical school and residency in Internal Medicine and Pediatrics.
Dr. Powellson is board certified in Internal Medicine and Pediatrics. Guided by his faith in Christ, he enjoys seeing children and adults of all ages.
After practicing medicine in Georgia for 3 years, Dr. Powellson and his family moved to Texas to join Woodlands Family Practice in 2014. In his free time, Dr. Powellson enjoys running, cycling, and spending time with his wife Tina, a native Texan, his two children, Macy and Jack, and two dogs, Luca and Izzy.
